The Bachelor of Arts in French engages students in the study of the French language and Francophone literature and cultures. Majors develop competency in spoken and written French and critically examine the history and culture of France and its role in Europe and the world. The program fosters an understanding of important aspects of contemporary French-speaking societies and prepares students to apply language skills and cultural knowledge in a variety of careers. Students often pursue this low-unit major in combination with other fields of interest.

Students are encouraged to study abroad in France, Canada, or another French-speaking country for a summer, semester, or year.
