Public Health Nursing Certificate

Total Units Required: 6-12

The Public Health Nursing Certificate is designed for students who hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a program that was not approved for Public Health Nursing. 

General requirements are:

  1. Possession of a current, valid California license to practice as a registered nurse.
  2. Evidence of current basic knowledge of medical-surgical, maternal and child health, and psychiatric nursing.
  3. Evidence of meeting the State-mandated child-abuse content requirements as evaluated by the advisor. Specific tools for child developmental assessment will also be evaluated, and NURS 314 may be required.
  4. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, the student is eligible to apply for a certificate of Public Health Nursing from the California Department of Public Health.
