Each year, over 500 first-year students enter California State University, Chico before selecting a major course of study.  These students spend their first semesters exploring courses and majors of potential interest while taking required General Education courses that advance their progress to degree.  On average, college students change their majors at least three times over the course of their college careers.  At Chico State, undeclared students typically graduate at the same or better pace than their peers who enter with declared majors.

Undergraduate Education (UED) is the academic home for undeclared students. UED supports this time of discovery through specialized General Education courses provided through the First-Year Experience and Honors programs that build in opportunities for undeclared students to find their place and their academic purpose.

In addition to these exploratory courses, undeclared students are encouraged to see an advisor through Academic Advising Programs where focused advising is provided to help students explore major options.

Find more information on the Undeclared Advising and Major Exploration page, or see an academic advisor in SSC 220.
