WILD 110  Introduction to Wildland Stewardship  3 Units

This hands-on introduction to the wildland stewardship program focuses on foundational content in the social, ecological sciences, and environmental arts while engaging with ethical issues related to stewardship. Students begin to develop a shared language to discuss and understand the complex and fractious social-ecological issues they will encounter in the program and in their careers. Students begin to foster a sense of place through introduction to the natural history of local wildlands. 3 hours discussion.  (022788)

WILD 210  Seminar in Tribal Stewardship  3 Units

An introduction to and engagement with critical issues related to stewardship from an Indigenous/Tribal perspective. Guest speakers provide perspective from their field experience to illustrate current stewardship models and practices focused on California, Great Basin, and Plateau tribes. 3 hours seminar.  (022789)

WILD 450  Catchment Considerations  1 Unit  

Typically Offered: Fall only  

A transdisciplinary experience designed to holistically understand catchments in order to adequately inform their stewardship. This course explores the complex and intersecting social, geographic, geological, ecological, economic, policy, and historical catchment issues centered on Big Chico Creek and other regional tributaries from their headwaters to their confluence and beyond. 2 hours activity.  (022790)

WILD 480W  Community-Engaged Wildland Stewardship Capstone (W)  3 Units  W, GW  

Prerequisite: GE English Composition (1A), RHPM 342, junior or senior standing.

In this capstone course, students apply cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural collaboration to wildland stewardship and natural resource management. Through community engagement, students develop skills to communicate across disciplinary and cultural boundaries to integrate diverse (e.g., indigenous, local, and professional) ecological practices and knowledge in collaborative decision-making for sustainable wildland stewardship. 3 hours lecture.  (022791)

The wildland stewardship internship provides students with an applied, field-based learning experience that bridges classroom knowledge with professional practice. Students work with agencies, organizations, or Tribal partners engaged in wildland stewardship to gain hands-on experience in conservation, ecological restoration, environmental communication, and/or community engagement. 0 hours supervision.  (022792)
