Physical Education Minor

The Minor in Physical Education provides a comprehensive foundation for teaching physical education in grades K-9. Students who wish to teach physical education but are not pursuing a degree or credential in Physical Education Teacher Education should choose this minor as it allows them to earn a supplemental authorization.

This program focuses on the specific competencies students must learn to earn the Supplementary Authorization for Multiple Subject and Standard Elementary Teaching Credentials in the area of Physical Education. Some topics include fundamental and creative movement skills, basics of human movement, and motor development and learning. Students also learn physical education pedagogy and curriculum development, which prepares them to
develop and implement effective PE programs in schools.

Individuals seeking a supplementary authorization should hold or be pursuing a teaching credential. Information about teaching credentials can be obtained from the School of Education.

Children and young adults, between the age ranges of preschool through high school, with low-incidence disabilities, which include deaf, blind and orthopedic disabilities, to come together and participate in sport competitions for Adapted Physical Education Sports Day.
