Innovations in the age of electronics has shrunk a room-size computer from the 1950s to today's hand-held devices that allow users to communicate with people around the world by text, voice, and/or streaming video. Sensors enable devices to monitor users so electronic systems can respond to voice and hand commands. To understand how these systems work, the course introduces students to concepts in electricity and magnetism. Applications of these concepts in electrical and electronic technology will be discussed including the operation of analog and digital circuits and systems in smart phones, robots, home automation systems, and other electronic systems that are designed to improve the quality of life.
